Google introduces Gemini 3.8 Live voice models
Google has introduced two Gemini 3.8 Live models for voice conversations. The standard version is designed for speed and scale, while Extended Thinking is meant for more complex tasks.
What changed
Google announced Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking on 15 September 2026. It says developers can use both through the Gemini Live API. Availability in its other products varies by service and customer group.
According to Google, Gemini 3.8 Live can use near real-time visual input, switch between 97 supported languages and call tools in the background while a conversation continues. Extended Thinking is designed for tasks that need more reasoning without stopping the conversation. We have not independently tested either model.
